The National Centre for Ground Water Research and Training (NCGRT) has a long-standing reputation as Australia’s leading groundwater training provider for industry.
An initiative between NCGRT, Flinders University, the Australian Government and the South Australian Government now aims to develop groundwater education materials aimed at schools and the broader community, many of whom depend on groundwater.
These materials will cover where groundwater is found and how it moves, how groundwater interacts with the environment (groundwater-dependent ecosystems such as rivers, springs, and vegetation), the cultural values of groundwater to First Nations people, and how groundwater is currently managed. They will also describe groundwater resources in different parts of Australia.
The materials on this page have been produced through a project that is funded by the Australian Government ($1.02 million). The project is managed by the National Water Grid Fund Science Program, with funding provided through the National Water Grid commitment for First Nations capability-building. The South Australian Government, through the Department of Environment and Water, is also contributing $330,000 through in-kind contributions.
