Project: The successful postdoc candidate will be responsible for hydrogeological investigations, with particular emphasis on novel methods to map and quantify surface water groundwater interactions and shallow groundwater flow in a complex lake system. The postdoc will be responsible for providing data on the subsurface component of the water balance for the lakes, but will also be developing and trialling novel methods for quantifying surface water groundwater interactions and publishing the results in high quality water resource journals. The preferred candidate will have a proven track-record of research excellence in the field of groundwater hydrology especially the area of surface water groundwater interaction including experience with fieldwork, deployment of monitoring equipment and data interpretation. The position comes with a 50% teaching responsibility, which includes tutoring and preparing as well as delivering lectures and workshops.
Role: The successful applicant will be working as part of a broader team that includes researchers from the UNSW Water Research Laboratory and the Connected Waters Initiative Research Centre. The project involves the custom development and deployment of field tools to measure surface water groundwater interactions in lake and stream systems.
Pre-requisites: PhD in Environmental Engineering or similar qualifications in the area of hydrogeology, physical science, or related field. Strong mathematical skills and a sound knowledge of physical hydrogeology are essential. The successful candidate should be willing to lead fieldwork unsupervised in remote areas.
